Most playable countries won't feel the benefit of Res Publica's additional content, which is unsurprising given the focus on republic nations. There's some neat tools here, but it's not one of Paradox's signature 'must-own' expansions. While The Republic felt like a real departure from the core game with entirely new systems and sub-systems, however, Res Publica is far less ambitious in scope. Res Publica is also aimed mainly at those who want to try playing a republican nation, and it adds new events, rules and mechanics to make that experience a deeper and more rewarding one. At first glance Europa Universalis IV's latest DLC pack looks a lot like Crusader Kings 2's The Republic expansion.
